International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design 2015

The 1st International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design were conducted on 4 – 11th September 2015 between Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor. The workshop was participated by 9 students from third year architecture in SIT and also by 10 students from third year landscape architecture, UTM. The topic that been addressed for the studio’s project was ‘Regeneration of the old town Johor Bahru’.

A part from the workshop, the participants also get to experience the local cultures and activities in the city of Johor Bahru. They also join the technical visit to Singapore’s old district and to Nusajaya. This workshop is success in terms of international collaborations and cross-cultural benefits especially related to urban design studies between Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Next, the same 10 students from Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) will be going to Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) fully sponsored for The 2nd International Exchange Workshop of Architecture and Urban Landscape Design 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.

The delegates from Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan and Department of Landscape Architecture, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor. The delegates from Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT), Japan with The Dean of Faculty of Build Environment (FAB) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor. The students enjoy learning the significant of Johor Bahru and experience them by foot. All participants accompanied by their lectures during the technical visit to Singapore. These are some of the design process and sketches by the students. The students are required to do a site survey and appraisal and they learned to communicate despite their differences.
